Story Outline

Princess Hours is a drama that starts with an interesting premise: what if modern Korea were a constitutional monarchy with a king? A perfect boy from a noble bloodline, with good looks and a sense of unpolished beauty has to marry against his will at the age of 19. An ordinary girl from an ordinary family, with a clumsy character, average grades and average looks oversteps the prejudice and barriers surrounding her to become the next Crown Princess of Korea. The process of how they fall in love with each other unfolds with excitement.

Story Outline:

Shin Chae-kyeong (Yoon Eun-hae)’s grandfather was very close to the former monarch, whose wish was for Chae-kyeong and the Crown Prince to marry.
When the king’s illness deteriorates, Crown Prince Lee Shin (Joo Ji-hoon) receives an order to wed his arranged marriage partner. Shin realizes that there have never been personal choices available in the life of a Crown Prince, though he’s only nineteen. He proposes to his girlfriend Min Hyo-rin (Song Ji-hyo) who takes it as a joke.
Chae-kyeong's family – a stay-at-home dad and an insurance consultant mom - suddenly becomes in-laws with the royal household. To Chae-kyeong’s parents, everything seems much more like a dream, as they witness the arranged marriage grandfather always boasted of becoming reality. Chae-kyeong cries foul, not willing to accept the fact that she has to get married at the age of nineteen, but Shin accepts the marriage, not caring about who becomes the queen. To him, she’s not a person he’ll ever love and she’ll just live in the palace like a doll.
The two constantly quarrel about structural problems such as the rules of the royal household in the midst of the difficulties of their arranged marriage. Their shaky union is further complicated by the appearance of Lee Yool (Kim Jeong-hoon), a cousin of the royal family.

Yool, son of Crown Prince Hyo-yeol who died in an accident 15 years ago, had left with his mother for England when Shin’s father became the Crown Prince. When Yool, second-in-line to the crown, comes back to his motherland, the Queen instinctively senses the danger of her son Crown Prince Shin losing the throne and orders him to be careful of Yool.
Chae-kyeong enters Oon-hyeon Palace, the palace of the new queen-bride, to become educated and groomed as the future queen. Shin, who visits the detached palace, is stunned by the beautiful Chae-kyeong in her ceremonial dress and slowly warms up to her and her gregarious nature. But Yool has already fallen madly in love with Chae-kyeong and is willing to fight for the throne with Shin just to be with her. Adding to the fray and confusion is Shin’s jilted girlfriend Hyo-rin who wants her man back.
